Two years ago not only the handsome engineer stole my heart, but many years before that the Lefkada area in Greece kept calling to me, not only every summer I wanted to return there, but also the Greek friends, the lovely food and the crystal clear blue sea whispered my destiny until it was unavoidable, I had to move!

I left Amsterdam, some dear friends, the canals, the bikes, a life with ups and downs, and I jumped the "pond", with a thousand plans and excitement to take life in my own hands, after 40, life begins!
I got stranded in this beautiful little village on the mainland, opposite the island of Lefkada in the north west area of the Ionian sea.
Rich in history, battles were fought here, Cleopatra's footsteps can still be seen if you look carefully, but the turmoils of the past have fled and it seems life stands still, especially after the handfuls of tourists have gone in the autumn.
We enjoy life here, the foreigners among the greeks, we mix, we separate for curry nights, we mix again while roasting pigs and talking politics or the local diesel prices. We speak greek, or think we do, and patiently we make ourselves understood with the yaya's, the old fishermen, the young stallions and the high heeled ladies with babies. We mourn with the Greeks, we drink with them and deep in our hearts we hope one day we will be like them, when we deserve their respect and when we defrost from our northern reservation in character.
They are ready for us, long before we are ready for them, but we know this little village holds a secret as deep as life itself.

I try to follow my heart and intuition, as an artist I can only make art, and share the skills with whoever wants and dares to share it with me. In my pictures I try to show the village in a mirror, look, how beautiful it is here, what a treasure we have at our feet!
This website is about Paleros, in ancient times called Zaverda, village of the special people. And that we are! I show you my friends, their businesses, the pictures of the special places, and faces. Maybe if one day you like to visit, you know a little bit where to go and what to do, but the real discovery is up to you.

With love and respect to lovely Paleros,
Barbara
